We went back to Ellis Island in las Vegas on October 22, 2007. By then they had raised the prices and charged us for the beers and it didn't even taste as good as before. After midnight we tried the $7.77 Gambler's Special at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino which included a steak and some shrimp. This tasted much better. We even had a coupon for Buy 1 Get 1 free, making it an even sweeter deal.
Last week we went back to the TAPS happy hour (M-F 2:30-6, also on the weekend, different times though) in Brea, and they raised their prices to $4 for a pint and their appetizers are now $6. I had their Gold Medal winning Irish Red Ale which was really good. The DH (Dear Husband, dear lord, I saw this term on message board for cruises), had the Roggen twice by accident (he had wanted their IPA for his second pint), and I had their Cream Ale for my second. The Red was great, but the others were just so-so. The Meat Lovers Pizza was pretty good, and so was the Crab ans Spinach Dip. The Seafood cocktail was okay.
Earlier that week we had gone to the happy hour at Maki Maki (M 3:30-close, Tu-Th 3:30-6) for the first time. We had been there to dine several times. I never liked it much but the DH keeps insisting. We were early so we went to the Yard House (M-F 3-6) for some pints beforehand. I can't remember what we had. At Maki Maki I had the Hefeweizen and I don't recall what the DH had, but the pints were about $2.50. Their sushi was about half off. Their pieces ($2.50) are quite good, but the rolls (~$3.50) weren't, and their bowls ($5) weren't either.
I prefer the happy hour at Riptide (M-F 4-6). I don't like their sister restaurant CHOMP which smells funny. Their the beers are $3, and their cut rolls which are fantastic are only $3.
Nothing, however, compares to my beloved Pizza Port. I love it so. If you get there before 3, you can order the lunch special, which is a slice of 'za, a salad, and a soda for about $5. You can upgrade to a beer instead of soda for another buck and then add another one if you choose a strong beer. Still a great deal. We were there on sunday and had the Stone 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, and another beer which I've forgotten.
